Yes things may seems to be changed a lot. But I really don't understand what you meant by "Microsoft has lost their way?" I think they are trying to break the developer community opinion that Microsoft tech stack is only for rich enterprises. What I see is now every one has the opportunity to play with a greatly invested technology which was developed by highly payed professional programmers.
